Clyde IP expands GCC coverage

Following the opening of a direct filing office in Bahrain in August 2015, Clyde IP is further expanding its trade mark and patent filing capabilities in the Middle East, with the addition of a new direct filing office in Muscat, Oman.

This will extend the direct filing capability of the Clyde network across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Scheduled to open in March 2016, the new Clyde IP office in Oman will enable the Clyde team to provide cost effective and high quality support on intellectual property matters in Oman, a key country in the region. The office will be located just minutes from the Oman Trade Mark and Patent Offices, providing Clyde & Co’s clients with access to an efficient and cost effective direct filing capability in Oman.

The opening of the Clyde IP office in Muscat will coincide with the implementation of the Unified GCC Trade Mark Law which is expected to come into force across the GCC region during the course of 2016. This will enable the Clyde team to provide seamless support across the region, which will be increasingly important as the new unified law is implemented.

Clyde & Co already provides comprehensive legal support in relation to intellectual property issues in 23 countries across the Middle East and North Africa. This offering is provided through a central ‘hub’ in Dubai, UAE, together with a long-standing network of Clyde & Co offices and corresponding agents throughout the region.

In the key GCC countries, the central Clyde & Co intellectual property team in the UAE works with the firm’s offices in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and with the firm’s affiliated entity Clyde IP, in Bahrain and Oman in order to provide our clients with a seamless service across the region through a single point of contact. This framework has been set up so that the Clyde & Co intellectual property team can maintain close control over all work undertaken across the region, in order to maintain the high quality standards which are a hallmark of the Clyde & Co offering in the Middle East.

Rob Deans, partner and Head of IP within Clyde & Co said: “The addition of this office in Oman underscores our commitment to expanding our intellectual property capabilities across the GCC region. Our continued aim is to provide our clients with a pre-eminent service for all intellectual property matters across the region.”

Clyde & Co’s intellectual property practice has, over the past 25 years, had an impressive track record in the Middle East.

Its central office in Dubai has been consistently identified by independent researchers as the leading practice in the UAE, and has been praised for its “local knowledge” and “excellent response times” (Legal 500, 2015) and its “commercial understanding” (Chambers Global, 2015). By expanding the offices of Clyde IP into Oman, Clyde & Co is looking to provide its clients with the same level of service in Oman and throughout the region.
