Online ‘Find an Accountant’ resource helps locate the right professional with the right skills

April 2017 sees the introduction of new business and tax regulations in the UK – some more complicated than others – such as contractor rules under what is known as intermediaries’ legislation or IR35; national minimum wage increases and changes to ISA savings allowances.

With such developments, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) says that professional advice from qualified accountants is essential to help businesses and individuals steer through new regulations and processes, and to ensure compliance with regulations.

Searching for and hiring a professionally qualified ACCA accountant is made all the easier with ACCA’s Find an Accountant online resource, which has access to ACCA members in the UK and globally, and also ACCA accredited firms.

John Williams, head of ACCA UK, says: ‘Professionally qualified accountants offer the best advice and guidance. Importantly, with an ACCA qualified accountant, you can have confidence in the professional and ethical standards of our members, backed up by the ACCA Rulebook and the compulsory continuous professional development our members do.’

John Williams adds: ‘Professional business advice is all the more important as the UK approaches Brexit negotiations which will affect cross border contracts for many businesses and the public sector. When it comes to finances, navigating Brexit’s consequences will demand a professional outlook, someone who can see the bigger picture and also ensure contracts and regulations are workable.’

ACCA qualified professional accountants can be licensed by ACCA to offer professional services directly to businesses and individuals. Equipped with financial, commercial and strategic skills, they provide an extensive range of services including:

• business, tax advice and planning
• preparation and audit of annual accounts
• preparation of personal and business tax returns
• set up of book-keeping and business systems
• payroll
• book-keeping services
• management accounting
• raising finance
• budgeting and cash-flow
• business start-up
• expert witness
• corporate rescue and insolvency.

In addition, some members can also offer advice on pensions, unit trusts and insurance.

John Williams concludes: ‘When appointing an accountant, it’s also wise to check what certificates they have – for instance, if you need an auditor, then look for an individual who has statutory auditor status. For general accountancy advice – such as tax planning – ensure they have an ACCA practising certificate.

‘Our website has all that’s needed to hire the right accountant or the right firm, with the relevant experience and the relevant credentials.’
