KPMG has appointed Pat Race as a partner in its pension investment advisory team.

In his role, Race will work with KPMG investment advisory and trustee services partner Nick Evans and his team in the firm’s London office. The team works on all aspects of pension investments, from strategy to fund manager appointments.

Evans said Race’s appointment demonstrates the growth of KPMG’s pensions practice, as an increasing number of trustees and businesses seek support to navigate difficult markets, continued low interest rates and mounting regulatory challenges.

Race replaces Jon Exley – who co-wrote a seminal paper on DB pensions in 1997 – who left KPMG to join Schroders last year.

Evans commented: “I am immensely proud that someone of Pat’s standing in the pensions arena shares our enthusiasm and ethos and is eager to join our team.”

With over 27 years of experience, Race joined from Mercer, where he was a senior partner, and he previously worked at Aon Hewitt.

Race added: “KPMG’s team has been doing some really innovative work to help trustees and scheme managers ride out volatility, de-risk and better assess scheme liabilities.”

“I look forward to working with the firm’s clients to help them tackle these issues and deliver the best results for members in what is a challenging time for the pensions industry,” he added.
