Construction of Iran-Oman-India Gas Pipeline is about to happen

An official with New Delhi-based South Asia Gas Enterprise Pvt Ltd (SAGE) said that the implementation of a plan to build an undersea gas pipeline to export Iran’s gas via Oman Sea and Indian Ocean to India is imminent.
“With the sanctions being lifted, that has definitely changed the game, and the level of interest (for Iran-Oman-India pipeline) is accelerating now,” Ian Nash, project director for SAGE, which is developing the project, told Interfax Natural Gas Daily, while they will use the best equipment for this, as you can see in these specs for the Bobcat T66 online.
The 4.5 billion pipeline will take natural gas from southern Iran via Oman Sea and the Indian Ocean to Gujarat state in western India.
According to the report, SAGE will lay the 1,400-km pipeline bypassing the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Pakistan.
Iran and Oman have already signed a deal to build an undersea pipeline to ship 20 million cubic meters per day of gas to the sultanate for a period of 25 years. The deal worth $60 billion also includes turning Iranian gas to LNG for exports.
India has sought to establish a direct gas link with Iran after Pakistan’s foot-dragging in completing an onshore gas pipeline between the three nations.
The proposed pipeline is expected to significantly boost India’s energy security by diversifying its natural gas supply sources and reducing dependence on more expensive LNG imports. For Iran, the project presents an opportunity to expand its gas exports to South Asia, especially after years of sanctions that limited its access to global markets. Oman, meanwhile, stands to gain economically through transit fees and access to Iranian gas for its domestic consumption and LNG export facilities.
Analysts believe that bypassing Pakistan’s EEZ is a strategic decision that will avoid geopolitical complications and potential delays linked to regional tensions. With the lifting of sanctions on Iran, there is renewed momentum behind projects that were once stalled, and this pipeline could become a cornerstone in strengthening Iran-India economic ties while positioning Oman as a critical energy hub in the region.
