A former law firm bookkeeper who was convicted of embezzlement in 2009 and served time in prison is scheduled to appear in federal court Thursday to answer accusations she has violated the terms of her probation, according to court records.

A probation officer reported Ronda Nixon failed to pay restitution and a special assessment, and failed to provide personal financial information, court records show.

Nixon also provided false financial information and opened a line of credit at a local store, which was prohibited under the terms of her probation, according to court records.

Nixon was convicted in U.S. District Court in February 2009 of wire fraud, bank fraud, identity theft and unauthorized use of a credit card. She stole $93,477 from the Catlettsburg law firm of Pruitt & Thorner.

She committed the crimes by using the law firm’s credit card to make personal purchases and then paying the bills from the firm’s bank accounts. To replace the money in those accounts, she opened a line of credit under the name of her boss, Garis L. Pruitt, and forged his signature to access money from the account.

In addition to paying off a student loan, Nixon used the law firm’s credit card to purchase airline tickets to Las Vegas, cosmetics from May Kay, Victoria’s Secret clothing and massages.

She was sentenced to serve 54 months in a federal prison in Alderson, W.Va., after which she was to be on probation for five years.

Her probation officer is recommending her probation be revoked, according to court records.
