CC tops global project finance rankings
Clifford Chance has overtaken Chadbourne & Parke to lead the global project finance rankings in 2015.
Research by market activity tracker IJGlobal shows the Magic Circle firm worked on 72 transactions in 2015 worth a total of $42bn. White & Case jumped four positions to second place, with 35 deals worth $40.5bn. Chadbourne & Parke ended the year in third position, with 46 transactions worth $38.5bn, though in the first half of 2015 the firm had jumped 15 places to take the top spot.
Renewables an active sector
The biggest proportion of Clifford Chance’s deals was in the renewables sector, with the firm working on 24 transactions worth $8.4bn, though its 19 transport deals were worth significantly more at $17.5bn. Clifford Chance energy and infrastructure partner Russell Wells said that while renewables transactions are not large deals, ‘it’s an active sector, along with brownfield and greenfield infrastructure projects of which we’re seeing a lot.’ He highlighted Africa and Latin America as particular growth areas and plans for the firm to balance its client base further so it acts for a mix of sponsors and lenders.
