Global law firm Clyde & Co today announced the promotion of a record 16 new partners across its international network. This is an increase on last year, which reflects the firm’s strong financial performance and continued growth.

This latest investment in the firm’s expertise grows the total number of partners to more than 375.  The promotions are effective from 1 May.

Half of the new promotions are women. Across the firm’s global sector groups Insurance saw the largest intake of new partners, with Dispute Resolution, Corporate, Infrastructure and Energy also bolstering their ranks.

The global spread of the promotions demonstrates the firm’s growing international 45 office network. By region, 56% of the promotions are in Europe, 19% in Asia Pacific, 19% in Middle East and Africa and 6% in North America.

During the past twelve months Clyde & Co also added 34 lateral hires, bolstering the firm’s already strong client service capabilities in its five core sectors. 41% of the new hires were for Insurance, 15% for Infrastructure, 6% for energy, 9% for transport and 3% for trade & commodities.

Growth during the year also came from the firm’s merger with leading Scottish firm Simpson & Marwick. The merger saw 45 partners join the Clyde & Co and the addition of five new offices in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Leeds and Newcastle. Combining this year’s promotions and new lateral hires, the firm has added 95 partners.

There was also significant growth in the Asia Pacific following the hiring of a 45 strong insurance team from Australian firm Lee & Lyons in February 2016. Three additional lateral hires that month and two in March saw the firm’s Asia Pacific presence grow by a fifth, between January and March 2016.

James Burns, Senior Partner at Clyde & Co, commented: “I’m delighted to announce a record number of partner promotions. The size of the group demonstrates the top quality calibre of the candidates coming through, the opportunities available to talented individuals at this firm and the importance we place on developing and investing in our people.”

“I’m especially pleased with the diversity of gender, geography and sectors in this year’s new partner group, which reflects the diverse nature of our business.”
