KPMG in the UK has announced the promotion of 40 partners and 108 directors.

Simon Collins, UK Chairman of KPMG, commented:

“These promotions recognise some of the brightest and best talent in our firm, who have mobilised their skills and ability to advise clients and help guide them through the political and economic uncertainty the UK is experiencing.

“The years ahead will, inevitably, present huge change for business. As we exit the EU advisors have a pivotal role to play to support industry and government, providing insight and rigorous analysis to help them plan for the future and seek out opportunities the ‘new normal’ may present.  Business leaders have already rolled up their sleeves to get to grips with what the future might hold.  We are advising clients on their contingency plans, working with them to assess the robustness of their supply chains and their financing arrangements.  These promotions reflect where we expect to see growth in our own business: 20% are in financial services, which faces significant challenges in the wake of Brexit.

“While today we celebrate success, I am cognisant of the challenges that remain.  We’ve taken great steps forward to improve diversity at graduate and board level, and were the first of the big 4 to achieve gender parity in graduate recruitment this year. We now need to go further and improve the wider diversity of our talent pool, beyond gender. Our new approach to graduate recruitment, Launch Pad, will be crucial in our efforts to achieve this long term change and the pilot has already delivered the most diverse intake of hires we’ve ever seen.

“I’m also committed to tackling the barriers preventing progression at our executive layer.  While 33% of our Executive Committee Board members are women, this year 28% of partners and 27% directors promoted were female and this must increase. We need to pull talent up through the business and I have made every member of the leadership team personally responsible for monitoring the diversity of their business area, spotting bottlenecks and intervening to overcome them.

“Tackling diversity is not just an issue that affects our firm: as leaders we need to work together to share experiences and drive change. At KPMG we’re playing our part to convene discussion, and I was proud to host the launch of the Female FTSE Board Report earlier this year to help business and government understand and address the barriers facing women in the workplace.”
