Cookies penalty: AMAZON EUROPE CORE, GOOGLE LLC and GOOGLE IRELAND LIMITED fined multimillion euros
The French data protection authority, Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL), has issued today two announcements to inform about the imposition of fines to AMAZON EUROPE CORE, GOOGLE LLC and GOOGLE IRELAND LIMITED for Cookies violations.
AMAZON EUROPE CORE is a company incorporated under Luxembourgish law, that is part of the Amazon group and is responsible of the European websites “Amazon”, whose internet website is Amazon.fr.
The company GOOGLE LLC, established in California, develops the search engine Google Search. The company GOOGLE IRELAND LIMITED, with its head office located in Ireland, presents itself as the European head office of the Google group. The company GOOGLE FRANCE is the establishment of GOOGLE LLC in France.
In accordance with the CNIL announcement about AMAZON EUROPE CORE, AMAZON EUROPE CORE fined 35 million euros for having placed advertising cookies on users’ computers, from the page amazon.fr, without obtaining prior consent and without providing adequate information.
In accordance with the CNIL announcement about GOOGLE LLC and GOOGLE IRELAND LIMITED, these two companies fined a total of 100 million euros for having placed advertising cookies on the computers of users of the search engine google.fr, without obtaining prior consent and without providing adequate information.
