SRA research looks into legal firms’ training systems
The Solicitors Regulation Authority’s (SRA) Education and Training Committee will be considering initial headline findings of research commissioned into learning and development approaches used by firms to ensure the competence of their paralegal and qualified staff, at its meeting on Thursday, 5 June.
The research was carried out by IFF Research with a representative sample of 750 SRA-regulated entities – including alternative business structures and larger firms. The aim of the study was to research the approaches currently used by SRA-regulated entities in order to ensure that their workforce, both qualified and unqualified, is maintaining a level of competence appropriate to their work and level of responsibility.
Final analysis from this study is still ongoing and will identify aspects of good practice that entities are applying to learning, education and training activities. Findings will be used to develop a “toolkit” to support firms and individuals during the transition towards the new approach to continuing competence which was agreed by the SRA Board at their meeting in May.
The full research report will be published later in the year and the toolkit is scheduled to be published next spring.
