Copper prices moved up by 0.22 per cent to Rs 439.60 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions on rise in demand in spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in November moved up by 95 paise, or 0.22 per cent, to Rs 439.60 per kg in a business turnover of 194 lots.

In a similar fashion, the metal for delivery in August edged up by 80 paise, or 0.18 per cent, to Rs 433.55 per kg in 4,731 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions built-up by speculators following increased demand from consuming industries in the spot market mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade here.

Globally, copper was little changed at USD 7,130 a metric tonne after touching USD 7,145, the highest since February 24 on the London Metal Exchange.
