Thailand’s state-owned upstream firm PTTEP has started exports of natural gas from the offshore Zawtika project in Myanmar to Thailand on August 5, PTTEP said in a statement Wednesday.

The project is currently ramping up production to a rate of 240,000 Mcf/day of gas, which is the daily contract quantity as stipulated in the gas sales agreement, the company added.

Zawtika, located in Block M9 in the Gulf of Martaban, began supplying natural gas for domestic use in Myanmar since March 2014, at a rate of approximately 60,000 Mcf/day.

PTTEP has an 80% participation interest in the project and acts as operator, with the other 20% stake held by Myanmar’s state-owned Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise.

Meanwhile, PTTEP is progressing with the construction of four additional wellhead platforms at Zawtika to support the production plateau, and plans to drill 10 appraisal wells between 2014 and 2015 to increase petroleum reserves and support long-term production levels, the company said in July. Drilling of these appraisal wells is scheduled to begin this month.
