Deloitte is the largest accountancy firm in Scotland, as measured in The CA magazine’s annual Accountancy Review.

The CA is the membership journal of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS). The Accountancy Review charts the largest 30 firms in Scotland, as measured by the number of fee earners (many firms do not separately report their Scottish revenue).

The Big Four firms dominate the Scottish marketplace, with Deloitte, KPMG, PwC and EY (formerly “Ernst & Young”) in first, second, third and fourth places respectively. The independent firm Johnston Carmichael comes in at number five.

Overall, the number of fee earners working for the Big Four in Scotland was up by 5.9 per cent from last year (to 2,793) and the number of partners/partner equivalents was up by 4.6 per cent. For the whole of the Top 30 in Scotland, the number of fee earners was up by 2.8 per cent (to 5,461) compared with 2013; the number of partners/partner equivalents was around the same as last year, up 0.4 per cent to 499.

In the UK-wide Top 30 league table, based on revenue, PwC takes the top place with Deloitte, EY and KPMG coming in at second, third, and fourth. The rest of the “Top 10” is made up of (in descending order): Grant Thornton UK, BDO, Baker Tilly, Smith & Williamson, Mazars and Moore Stephens.
