Despite consecutive delays in the completion of the 5th review of Cyprus’ economic adjustment programme – coordinated by its Troika of international lenders – the island remains on track with regards to the agreement’s implementation, insists President Nicos Anastasiades.

Addressing the inauguration of the renovated premises of the Limassol Co-operative Savings Society administrative offices, the President expressed his approval of the Co-op’s recent initiative to reduce lending interest rates. This encourages competition within the island’s credit institutions, he continued, and eases the financial burden on both households and businesses, contributing to the establishment of appropriate conditions for a return to growth.

“We are determined to proceeding with the implementation of a series of bold amendments, aiming at further developing the international competitiveness of our country and establishing a positive and friendly environment for businesses and investments, which in turn will create more jobs, something which is a priority of our economic policy,” Anastasiades affirmed.

His administration remains committed to the implementation of Cyprus’ economic adjustment programme, he noted, which provides for the institutional establishment of tools which will allow the banking system to operate soundly.

“Cyprus returned to the international markets much earlier than predicted even by the most optimistic analysts, and our international lenders have recognised the continuous improvements of the economy,” the President concluded.
