The accountancy profession in Colombia: ACCA and EAN University in Bogota signed an agreement

ACCA has issued a press release to inform that, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between EAN University in Bogota, Colombia, and ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) to develop the accountancy profession in the South American country.

From January 2016 University EAN and ACCA will give students the opportunity to graduate while meeting international standards in financial regulation through the various certifications offered by ACCA. Additionally, through their own continuing education programmes, the two organisations will allow accountants in Colombia to seek certification in international financial standards and receive the best academic support in order to achieve their career goals in this profession, which is vital for the 21st century economy and businesses.

Dr Afra Sajjad, ACCA’s head of education – emerging markets, and Dr Ruben Dario Gomez Saldana, EAN University’s chancellor, signed the MOU.

Dr Afra Sajjad said: ‘Both ACCA and EAN University share common values in the sustainable development of the accountancy profession in Colombia and internationally, in particular concerning the maintenance and promotion of professional, educational and ethical standards, and providing opportunity for individuals of ability to pursue a globally relevant qualification to enhance their career prospects and ultimately to maintain and develop the profession and wider economy.’

Dr Ruben Dario Gomez Saldana said: ‘EAN University is a recognised institution in Colombia in areas related to business, finance, entrepreneurship and innovation. With this new partnership with ACCA I am sure that many professionals in Colombia and Latin America will benefit. Thanks to this new alliance with ACCA, EAN University will further prescribe to the international financial standards and promote sustainability and ethical values to business and enterprises both at a national and international level.’

The partnership is particularly beneficial to students in accounting programmes and accounting professionals in Colombia and Latin America. It will also benefit enterprises looking for business partners that have global recognition, in order to update their employees and businesses to international financial standards.

EAN University in Colombia now joins its new partner in in the UK, BPP University, to bring more opportunities for professional accountancy development to Colombia and Latin America.
