Most law firms misunderstood future role of technology, say Altman Weil

Law firms are going through a ‘dawning recognition’ of the role of high tech in the legal sector – but it may be too late for some practices, according to an Altman Weil report.

The ‘Law Firms in Transition’ survey for 2015 concludes that the power of smart technology to take the place of traditional legal work in some areas is now being recognised. But it says: ‘This will present a mortal threat to some practices, but the impact of new technology is woefully misunderstood by most law firm partners.’

The survey also concludes that ‘a large majority of law firm leaders see the profession is changing’.
