Paysafe Group PLC on Monday said it is confident millions of customer accounts will not be compromised by past cyber attacks that resulted in data falling into the wrong hands.

The payments company issued an update following an investigation into alleged data breaches, and said the “data will not in itself allow any existing NETELLER or Skrill customer accounts to be accessed”.

Paysafe, formerly known as Optimal Payments, said the “illegally-obtained data in the hands of third parties relates to limited account details from 3.6 million NETELLER accounts and basic personal details relating to 4.2 million Skrill accounts”.

Less than 2% of those accounts were active i the six months to November 1, Paysafe said, and the data do not include passwords, card data or bank account information. Those findings were verified by a “major” accounting firm, Paysafe said.

The company said it believes the data came from cyber-attacks in 2009 and 2010 and is not aware of any similar breaches since that time.
