Leading Swiss law firm heads for Tehran

tehran

In what is only the second opening of an international law firm in Iran since the 1979 Iranian revolution, a Swiss firm has opened its doors in Tehran.

Swiss law firm Python & Peter has launched its office in Tehran as the country opens for business in the aftermath of the lifting of economic sanctions. The firm was founded in Geneva by four partners in 1981 and has grown to become one of the major law firms in Switzerland with offices in Lausanne, Bern, Sion and Zug.  In addition, it has offices in Brussels and Tokyo. Specialising in business law and international arbitration, it has around 60 lawyers across its offices.

CMS entry

It follows CMS’s earlier entry to the market in February when the German office of the firm opened a dedicated office in the Iranian capital. CMS chair Cornelius Brandy said at the time that the lifting of sanctions opened new opportunities in Iran. CMS is located in the same building as the German Chamber of Foreign Trade in Tehran. CMS lawyers are advising on both Iranian and international law.  One of its early deals was advice on a the cooperation agreement between Daimler and Iran Khodro Diesel SSA.
