Combining this year’s promotions and new lateral talent, the Firm added 150 partners.

Premier global law firm Baker & McKenzie announces election of 85 new partners. This latest investment in the Firm’s expertise grows the total number of partners worldwide to 1,580. Over 400 of these are women – the most of any law firm.

Forty percent or 34 of the new promotions are women; matching the Firm’s own record set in 2015 and a market-leading number for any law firm. Across the Firm’s practice groups globally, Tax saw the largest intake of new partners with Banking & Finance, Dispute Resolution and Mergers & Acquisitions, significantly bolstering their ranks. Save as indicated below, the promotions are effective 1 July.

Regionally, 43 percent of the promotions are in Asia Pacific; 19 percent are in Europe, Middle East and Africa; 8 percent in Latin America; and 30 percent in North America.

During Financial Year 2016 Baker & McKenzie added 65 lateral hires, bolstering the Firm’s already strong client service capabilities in key practice areas such as Mergers & Acquisitions, Dispute Resolution, Banking & Finance and Tax, among others. A third of the lateral hires are women. Combining this year’s promotions and new lateral talent, the Firm added 150 partners.

Eduardo Leite, Chairman of Baker & McKenzie, said: “I am pleased to welcome all of our new partners from across the world. Our promotions demonstrate our broad diversity of talent across numerous countries and practice groups. I am particularly proud that we continue to promote a high number of women. Few professional services firms, especially one as large as ours, can say that they consistently promote a partner class of nearly half women as we have done again this year. However, although much has been done, we have more to do.”
