  • Continuing commitment to gender diversity – almost 60% of all senior appointments are women

MinterEllison announced its 1 July 2016 senior appointments – 13 new partners, 21 special counsel and 37 senior associates.

Chief Executive Tony Harrington AM said the appointments reflect the firm’s absolute focus on building exceptional capability to drive the firm’s aspiration to be our clients’ best partner.

“This year we are announcing a record number of senior appointments – a total of 71, up almost 40% on last year. We have admitted great talent into the partnership and recognised the outstanding contributions of our up-and-coming lawyers through promotion to special counsel and senior associate.

“Our clients tell us they want advisers who collaborate, innovate and inspire, which we seek to achieve by empowering our next generation of leaders to help deliver our firm’s ‘solutions- focused’ growth strategy.

“We have moved on from thinking of ourselves as simply lawyers. Being our clients’ best partner means creating real value for clients by looking at everything we do through the lens of what clients want and need. It’s about offering an expanded suite of consultancy services, developing innovative and industry-focused solutions and adopting multi-disciplinary approaches not traditionally offered by law firms,” Mr Harrington said.

The bulk of the firm’s 71 senior appointments are in the core strategic practices of Regulatory Assurance & Response, Banking, Transactions, Dispute Resolution, Real Estate, Insurance, Government and Construction/Infrastructure.

“Investment into Australia’s financial services, commercial property, infrastructure, agribusiness and health and aged care sectors continues to drive much of our work. By building strength in these key areas, we’re positioning the firm for real and exciting growth.”

Mr Harrington also noted that more than half of all the mid-year senior appointments are female.

“Every year since 2013 we have increased the number of women promoted into senior roles and I’m pleased that this year almost 60% of our senior appointments are women. We’re committed to support the career aspirations of all our people, and are very focused on removing any barriers to the best talent coming through the firm.”
