Baker & McKenzie retains 88 per cent of qualifying trainees
The Chicago-headquartered law firm is keeping on all but two of its 16 qualifying trainees in London.
Retention figures released yesterday by Baker & McKenzie confirmed that 14 of the 16 trainees qualifying this autumn have been offered NQ contracts with the firm. Of the cohort, only one did not apply for a permanent position with Baker & McKenzie, while one other was not successful in their application. The new juniors will be spread fairly evenly across Baker & McKenzie’s practice groups, with the firm’s disputes team set to welcome three NQ lawyers while the corporate, IT/commercial, employment, tax and competition practice groups will receive two juniors each. One final NQ will be joining the global firm’s IP/commercial team in Dubai.
‘Once again we have an accomplished set of trainees coming through as junior lawyers and we are delighted to retain such a high proportion,’ said Bakers’ training principal Arron Slocombe of the result. ‘Investing in excellent talent from a diverse pool of trainees is central to our strategy.’
