SIX Swiss Exchange reports slight decrease in turnover in February 2017

As of end of February 2017, trading turnover on SIX Swiss Exchange and SIX Structured Products Exchange totalled CHF 228.5 bn which corresponds to a decrease of -2.8%. The only increases were registered in the segments ETF (+16.1%) and Bonds non-CHF (+48.1%). Compared to the previous month, the decrease amounts to -10.3%, with a total of CHF 108.0 bn. Again, Bonds non-CHF showed a positive result (+7.1%), along with Structured Products and Warrants (+5.3%).

The number of transactions decreased as well: 8’178’660 trades since the beginning of the year 2017 correspond to a decrease of -16.0%, while the number only dropped by 5.4% in comparison to the previous month. As with regards to turnover, the segment Bonds non-CHF registered significant increases of trading activity over both periods, i.e. +25.1% since the beginning of the year and +35.2% compared to January 2017.

Extension and internationalization of offerings for trading participants

In February 2017, SIX Swiss Exchange expanded its offering for non-displayed trading. With the market extension of SLS it supports trading in both Italian and Norwegian equities. This extension adds over 400 shares to the universe of tradable instruments, and brings the total number of markets supported by SLS to 13. Furthermore, SIX Swiss Exchange enlarged its choice for Clearing Services and welcomes EuroCCP as third Central Counterparty (CCP) for the Swiss market. With the go-live of EuroCCP, the Swiss exchange strengthens its interoperability and caters even better to the needs of its clients.
