British law firms dominate 2014 sukuk issuance sector
Allen & Overy, Dentons and other UK law firms are dominating the sukuk issuance sector, along with British banks, even though Malaysia remains the geographical capital.
Other leading firms are Linklaters, Slaughter and May, King and Spalding and Clifford Chance. Firms with relationships with HSBC and Standard Chartered are likely to do well as they are the leaders in this area in issues outside Malaysia – a trend which is expected to continue.
African issues
The issuance areas are expanding. Although the main areas remain South East Asia and the Gulf, issues were made last year in Europe, Africa and East Asia.
