Top Six firm BDO has appointed former KPMG director Christopher Arnull as its first head of Legal and Practice Protection, as the accountancy firm looks to tackle more legal and regulatory challenges.

Arnull, who joins BDO from KPMG where he led the client contracting team for several years, will head up BDO’s legal and practice protection team in a newly created role, delivering a “range of legal work for the firm from insurance and regulatory advice to governance and litigation”.

Gervase MacGregor, head of international risk & advisory at BDO, said: “The legal and regulatory challenges major firms face have become more complex over the last five years and we see this continuing.

“Governance and compliance plays an increasingly important role in the highly regulated markets both we and our clients work within. We are glad Chris has chosen us and I personally look forward to working with him.”

Arnull commented: “Joining such a successful and energising firm, one which plays to its strengths and has a clear vision for growth, is an exciting step for me. I look forward to helping BDO steer its way through the various legal issues it faces in common with other businesses and working with the highly regarded team already in place.”

BDO has made a string of appointments in recent months, including a global head of real estate, a new lead partner in North West and nine new partners across the UK.
