Global law firm, Reed Smith, today announces a substantial, further investment in Singapore with the launch of a Formal Law Alliance (FLA) with Singapore law practice, Resource Law LLC.

The Reed Smith Resource Law Alliance significantly expands Reed Smith’s offering in Singapore and its ability through the FLA to service its clients’ legal requirements in handling multijurisdictional transactions, disputes and cross-border work involving Singapore law.

Through the Alliance, Reed Smith now offers a highly experienced team of lawyers qualified to advise on English, US, Australian, Hong Kong and Singapore law in a number of key areas including energy and natural resources, maritime, life sciences, dispute resolution, financial services, insurance, restructuring and regulatory work.

Further, the Resource Law LLC lawyers in the Alliance are able to represent clients in the Singapore Courts.

With the FLA, the firm’s clients will, going forward, benefit from seamless service on all multi-jurisdictional matters which have both an international and a Singapore law element.

Barry Stimpson, Reed Smith’s Singapore office managing partner, commented: “We are delighted with how we have developed in Singapore since we opened our Singapore office in 2012.

“In that time we have grown from five partners to a team of 20 lawyers practicing English, US, Australian and Hong Kong law and who can advise across the wide range of industries and practices in which we provide specialised advice.”

“As we embark on the next stage of our growth in Singapore, we will collaborate closely with our Alliance partner Resource Law LLC and together strive to make a contribution to the expansion of Singapore as a regional and international centre for legal services as well as affirming our commitment to the market and the needs of our clients.”

S Mohan – a prominent Singapore lawyer – leads a team of 8 lawyers from Resource Law LLC, including Kohe Hasan, Bernard Yee, Carolyn Chia, Ang Keng Ling and Adrian Aw, whose combined experience will complement and boost Reed Smith’s capability to provide legal services to clients in all its key practice areas.

The full service offering of the Reed Smith Resource Law Alliance includes advisory, transactional, corporate, and dispute resolution expertise in a number of Singapore’s core industries and practices including energy and natural resources, maritime, financial industries, insurance and life sciences.

S Mohan, Managing Director of Resource Law LLC added: “Our operations and strategy will seek to mirror Reed Smith’s global strategy, which is to focus on industry sectors in which the practice is already recognised as a market leader.

“As Singapore consolidates its position as one of the world’s leading international dispute resolution, commodity trading, maritime and financial centres, I am confident our enhanced offering via the FLA will become even more important as we aim to support and grow these practice areas.”

“We are also aiming to boost our practice in other growth areas for Singapore where Reed Smith is already a market leading firm globally such as life sciences, pharmaceuticals and regulatory work.”
