Tourism tax set to be implemented in Aberdeen

Weather pic - a damp day in Aberdeen.

Tourists visiting Aberdeen will now have to cough up an additional £1 a night.

The scheme was unanimously approved at the authority’s finance, policy and resources committee yesterday.

The tourism tax is expected to generate £1.7million for council officers.

The levy – similar to schemes in Paris, Barcelona and New York – will mean tourists paying an additional cost on top of their hotel, B&B or guest house fees.

The chief executive will now write to the Scottish Parliament seeking legislation to introduce the scheme.
